Born and bred in Bedminster,I went to school right next door to Ashton Gate,so its no wonder I became a Rovers fan..! The reason being that my uncle was a certain Ray Warren who played at centre half and was captain of the 'gas' back in the mid fifties. After being a regular playing in my school team, my first club was Crusaders in youth football and we reached the GFA youth cup final that was played at Ashton Gate where unfortunately we lost 2-1. My parents by this time had decided to manage a pub in Stapleton Road, within spitting distance of my beloved Eastiville Stadium.I was asked to have trials with Rovers by the manager then Mr.Bert Tann.I played for Rovers for 3 years at youth level alongside the likes of Stuart Taylor who went on to have a distinguished career with Rovers,Lyndsey Parsons who has been the number 2 to Tony Pullis at various football league clubs and two great mates of mine at the time Larry Lloyd who made a name for himself at Liverpool and also England and Ray Graydon who went on to play for Aston Villa and ended up back at Rovers not so long ago as Manager. Just when I had dreams of being asked to sign pro forms I suffered a bad break to my right leg. This took me 16 months to get back to just training, but realized I wouldn't make it and sadly eventually lost contact with the game, until I got involved in helping at Brimsham Green youth wing with the football team and the rest is history. Yes I did play for Brimsham in the early days for a couple of seasons, playing at the back in the Beckenbauer/Bobby Moore mould....Well I can dream, can't I ?
